One of the most successful franchises of the Big Bash League (BBL), Perth Scorchers, will start their campaign with the curtain raiser on December 14 against the Sydney Sixers at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Last time, it was an unusually tough season for the Scorchers, who finished in the fifth position of the points table with four wins in 10 games at a net run rate of +0.219.
Under the captain of Ashton Turner, the Scorchers will look to make a fresh start. They will also have their all-rounder and veteran player, Mitchell Marsh, available for the entire season. A look at the top five players to watch out for from Perth Scorchers in upcoming BBL 2025/26
1. Finn Allen
Finn Allen is perhaps the most brutal opening batter of the shortest format, who doesn’t get the full recognition for his heroics. In 159 innings of the shortest format, the right-handed batter has nailed 4415 runs at an average of just under 29 and a strike rate of over 173, scoring four centuries and 29 half-centuries at the best score of 151 runs.
The Kiwi batter had a decent yet struggling last season of the BBL when he smashed 181 runs in 10 innings at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 184.69, thanks to two half-centuries at the best score of 68 runs. His role will remain the same for the Scorchers as he can play the big shots using the bounce of the surface.
2. Mitchell Marsh
Another brutal player at the top order of the side going into the BBL 2025/26 will be Mitchell Marsh, who has the experience of 5506 runs in 204 T20 innings at an average of 33.36 and a strike rate of 137.65, thanks to three centuries and 34 half-centuries at the best score of 117 runs. Besides that, Marsh has collected 85 wickets in 109 innings at an average of 25.75 and an economy rate of 8.44.
In the previous season, it was one of the outrageous performances from the Australian white-ball captain, who got a golden duck in the lone contest he took part in before picking up an injury. However, he hopes to remain available for the entire upcoming season.
3. Laurie Evans
Laurie Evans was part of the Melbourne Renegades for a long time. But his last couple of seasons came for the Perth Scorchers, where he has returned for the new season. In the 2021/22 season, he clubbed 361 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of 144.40 before nailing 292 runs in the following edition at a strike rate of 189.61.
Evans will be a handy contributor with the bat in the middle order. The 38-year-old has accumulated 7305 runs overall in the shortest format in 311 innings at an average of nearly 30 and a strike rate of 138.90 with the help of three centuries and 44 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 118 runs.
4. Jhye Richardson
Jhye Richardson will now be a vital member for the Scorchers in the absence of their long-time contributor, Jason Behrendroff. Richardson has featured in 96 T20s where he has taken 124 wickets at an average of 22.89 and a strike rate of 17.1 with the economy rate of eight, thanks to the best figures of 4/9 in an innings.
Richardson, who has more than 100 wickets in the BBL history, picked up eight wickets in five innings of the last BBL. In 2022/23, he collected 15 wickets in seven innings at an average of just over 12 and an economy rate of 6.75.
5. Ashton Turner
The leader of the Perth Scorchers, Ashton Turner, has been a successful campaigner for the Scorchers. In 211 innings, the left-handed batter has collected 3860 runs at an average of under 25 and a strike rate of little over 140 with the help of 16 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 84 runs.
In the previous edition of the league, Turner claimed 240 runs in 10 innings at an average of 34.28 and a strike rate of 147.23, thanks to the lone fifty. His captaincy will again be vital for the successful franchise of the event.
